Every document you share with me, every diagnosis, every appeal, every difficult conversation, is held with the same care I would want for my own family. This policy explains exactly how.
01 My Commitment
My Commitment to Your Privacy
As an independent patient advocacy service, The Patient's Advocate is generally not a "covered entity" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). That does not lower my standard. I hold every client record to the same rigor and respect for privacy that HIPAA is built to protect, guided by professional ethics and applicable state and federal law.
I protect your information the way I would want mine protected: not because a regulation requires it, but because trust is the entire foundation of this work.
02 What I Collect
Information I Collect
I collect only what is necessary to provide effective, personalized advocacy. You are never asked for more than your specific advocacy needs require.
Contact Information
Name, address, phone number, email, and other details I need to reach and work with you.
Health History
Relevant conditions, diagnoses, treatments, medications, and providers connected to your advocacy needs.
Personal Identifiers
Date of birth, insurance policy numbers, and SSA details when required for specific support such as SSDI applications.
Documentation
Medical records, provider or insurer correspondence, billing statements, and other documents you choose to share.
03 How I Use It
How I Use Your Information
Your information is used for one purpose only: delivering the advocacy you engaged me for.
- Health Navigation: Helping you understand diagnoses, treatment options, and the complexities of the healthcare system.
- SSDI Application & Appeals Support: Guiding you through Social Security Disability Insurance applications and appeals.
- Whole Health Advocacy: Providing comprehensive support across every aspect of your health journey.
- Communication: Speaking with healthcare providers, insurers, and other parties on your behalf, only with your explicit consent.
Your data is never sold, rented, or used for marketing. I do not monetize client information in any form.
04 Security Measures
Confidentiality & Security Measures
All client information is held in the strictest confidence, protected by administrative, technical, and physical safeguards against unauthorized access, loss, disclosure, or alteration.
- Secure Digital Storage: Encrypted, password-protected systems for all electronic records.
- Single Point of Access: The Patient's Advocate is an independent, one-person practice. There is no staff or outside contractor access. Your file is reviewed only by your advocate.
- Secure Communication: Sensitive information is transmitted only through secure methods.
- Ongoing Professional Development: Continuing education in privacy protocols and data security best practices, kept current year over year.
- Physical Security: Any physical documents are stored in secure, locked environments.
05 Third-Party Disclosure
Third-Party Disclosure
I share your information with a third party (a healthcare provider, insurer, or the Social Security Administration, for example) only with your explicit, documented consent and direction, and only as necessary to carry out the advocacy work you requested. I do not disclose your information to any third party for their independent use without your express permission.
06 Important
Non-Clinical Disclaimer
The Patient's Advocate provides non-clinical advocacy services only. My work is strictly limited to non-medical navigation, coordination, and advocacy support. I do not diagnose, treat, or provide medical care, and I do not offer legal or financial advice. Please consult qualified medical, legal, or financial professionals for those matters.
